General Info
The Hobson West swim team is part of the Naperville Park District Swim
Conference, which is composed of 23 teams. Dual meets are scheduled on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5:30pm and Saturday mornings
at 8:30am. Swim meets last approximately 3-4 hours.
The Hobson West pool is a 25 meter pool, rather than 25 yards, as is
the norm in the conference. What does that mean to swimmers' times? Check
out our Converting Times page.
Vacation/Conflicts
There is a vacation/conflict coaches’ box in the pool office. Please
deposit a note (NO VERBAL MESSAGES) with the names, age groups and dates
of your absence to let the coaches know in advance of your plans. Swim
meet line-ups are due at least 3 days in advance of the meet and this
advance notice will allow other children on the team to have an opportunity
to swim. With over 140 members on the team, it is impossible for coaches
to remember specific verbal messages. If a last minute emergency occurs,
please contact Ann or Don Lamb.
Workers
As many of you know, a swim meet can not be run without many workers.
Each family is expected to work at least 4 meets during the regular season,
as well as at one of the championship meets. If for any reason you cannot
work your assigned meet, it is up to you to find your own replacement.
Failure to work a scheduled meet or find a replacement can result in a
no-show fine of $100 per missed meet and possible loss of swim team privaleges.
Your on-deck support and help are greatly appreciated and highly valued.
Remember that every worker is a volunteer just like you and is doing
their best in the job they have been assigned. Please be considerate of
all workers at the meets. If there are problems during the meet, please
see any member of the swim team board for resolution.
Swim Meet Notes
- Directions to away meets will be on the bulletin board, as well as
on this web site (Directions to away meets)
- Line-ups for swim meets will also be posted on the bulletin board.
- Swimmers are to be at the pool (where the meet is being held)
½ hour before the meet begins for warm-ups. Tuesday/Thursday
5pm, Saturday 8am.
- An order of event sheet and line-up will be posted in the team area
before and during the meet. This should be checked upon arrival and
during the meet for any changes.
- Swimmers need to highlight their names upon arrival so that coaches
know that they are there. Swimmers should only highlight their own
name.
- Swimmers should remain in the team area so events won’t be missed.
If an emergency occurs and a swimmer has the leave the meet early, the
swimmer must notify both the coaches and the Clerk of Course prior to
leaving.
- The Clerk of Course will line up swimmers for their event - lane and
heat assignments must be followed to ensure times are recorded properly
for each swimmer.
- 6/unders and 8/unders should sit together as a group so they can be
easily identified by the Clerk of Course for their events.
- On cool evenings, it is a good idea to bring a sleeping bag/blanket,
extra towels and warm-ups.
- Meets are not canceled because of rain or cold. In case of lightening,
the weather conditions will be assessed at 5:30pm on weekdays and 8:30am
on Saturdays. Decisions regarding cancellations or postponements of
meets will not be made until this time. Therefore, all swimmers should
show up at the pool as scheduled.
- Due to the length of the swim meet, you are encouraged to provide
your child with something to do between events (cards, books, etc.)
- Do not bring sharp objects or glass items to any pool.
