Hi All!
Forgive
me but I thought that it would be better to cover all that has transpired in 4
emails.
Doug
A
belated THANK YOU!
This
thank you should have been email #1.
George
McConaghy, the Hobson West Board and I want to applaud all of you who took the
time to attend any one of the many sessions and particularly the City
Council meeting last Tuesday
meeting. The turnout on Tuesday was
just phenomenal. Despite the
postponement from a July date to the date in August, and then the postponement
to last Tuesday you all remained engaged and turned out.
Our
special thanks to our block captains in Hobson West and the people who kept
them informed and organized and supplied with the many and various pieces of
paper to distribute. Our thanks to
those of you who stepped in for a few of the block captains who were on
vacation.
A
special thanks to the volunteers in the other subdivisions who contacted us and
asked how can I help.
A very
special thanks to those of you who took the time to contact the addresses that
had not responded the first and second time.
We found that when we were able to find someone at home we almost always
were able to get a signature indicating their opinion on the question of
changing the zoning. Your efforts for
these final face-to-face contacts were instrumental in getting the coverage's
in the various subdivisions up in the 70%'s, & 80%'s and the signature
count up over 1,100.
Most of
these front door conversations included the wish that the property could remain
as it is now or become Park Land; but if it was going to be developed lets at
least keep it single family. Those
comments, and input from others, apparently had an impact because the majority
of the City Council expressed a preference to have the property become a park.
While
going door-to-door I happily renewed some acquaintances from years ago when my
girls were active on the swim team. I
also met many nice folks.
I was
also really surprised at how many people were actively following this through
the cable broadcasts. The Planning
Commission and City Council meetings are very popular programs.
And now
a request.
We have
had many volunteers to do the work requiring a few hours walking around the
neighborhoods.
With
the tabling of the subject while the City Staff talks with the Park District
Staff we have a chance to convince the Park District that they should purchase
the property from the developer.
I
really thank our current volunteers, and would like to spread the work load
with some additional volunteers.
Please contact me with your name, address subdivision and phone number.
Thanks
again.
